The SK-55 float steam trap is designed to drain condensate using a float mechanism. During system startup, before the system has warmed up, a built-in thermostatic vent releases accumulated air and non-condensable gases. As the system heats up, steam enters the trap, the capsule expands, and closes the valve. As condensate fills the trap body, the float rises, opening the valve and releasing the condensate. Once all the condensate has been drained, the trap fills with steam. At this point, the float descends, closing the valve.

The trap is designed to maintain a constant amount of condensate inside the trap, forming a water seal. This prevents the formation of "flyaway steam."

The SK-55 can be installed horizontally, right-to-left or vice versa. If not specified in the order sheet, the default installation is right-to-left.
